The screenplay has a great structure to it.
Annie meets Sam and Jonah for the first time Except that Jonah left his backpack on the platform. She gets there, but Sam and Jonah have gone. Annie pleads with the security to let her onto the observation platform. The Empire State Building is about to close. Annie tells Walter that she’s not in love with him. All of these things happen at the same time. Annie has dinner with Walter with a view of the Empire State Building. He thinks they are cosmologically aligned and destined to meet and fall in love. It seems they were not fated to fall in love. Sam and Annie both put away their plans to meet at the Empire State Building on Valentine’s Day. Sam thinks Jonah is childish and dismisses going to New York. Annie says she wants to meet Sam at the Empire State Building on Valentine’s Day. Annie in a fit of romance writes a letter to Sam. Jonah, who is ten years old, takes it very seriously. Until Sam gets tons of letters addressed to him all asking him for his romantic attention. Annie and Sam live their lives without much incident. For some reason Annie feels compelled to find out more about Sam. Unbeknownst to Sam there are hundreds of women listened to the radio show. He gets his Dad to talk to the psychologist. So he calls a radio talk show about relationships.
He thinks his Dad can’t sleep at night and needs a new wife. Their planes leave in opposite directions from the airport. Annie is sick of Chicago and wants to move back to where she is from Baltimore. One, SAM, a man who has just lost his wife is really upset. Two middle aged people are changing jobs and changing cities. If it’s releases around New Year’s Eve or Valentines Day that could have positive effects on it’s success as a film. With the right leading man it could be a major hit. It’s possible that it will play well with female audiences. This sets off a chain of events that leads the widower to find love once again.ĬOMMERCIAL POTENTIAL: Following on the heels of When Harry Met Sally this romantic comedy is sure to generate interest from audiences who love stories from Nora Ephron starring Meg Ryan. LOGLINE: A widower’s young son calls into a radio station to find his Dad a new wife.
